Dear Dr. Sheehan.
Your book came to my life when I was about to uncover what it means to be human. I was 23 then a[s] (and) I was at the peak of my prowess as a young adult.
It was timely that I discovered your book, while I discovered running. True enough, through running I uncover who I am.
You taught me that all I need to be happy is to have a pair of strong legs [and] and a pair of good lungs.
As long as I can run, I am a success. That's because by running I am being true to my form. As it goes, a god is a man fully functioning. As long as I can run, I am being a good animal.
It is your philosophy with regard to running and being that caught my imagination. To you, running is not about just being healthy or having a beautiful body. It is a calling towards becoming our highest order. You talked about how running had transformed you into a hero, a saint, an artist, and a poet.
If all these are true, then running is the secret elixir of happiness and the fountain of youth long sought by the rest of the world.
I really appreciate the generosity that you offer to your readers. Certainly, I cannot look at the world the same way after I read your books.
Rest in peace, Dr. George Sheehan. Wherever you are, I hope you keep on putting up the mileage.
